Collin County, TX – May 21, 2025 – The Honorable Ben Smith, presiding Judge of the 380th District Court in Collin County, proudly announces his candidacy for Justice of the Texas Fifth Court of Appeals, Place 6. The Fifth Court of Appeals serves Dallas, Collin, Grayson, Kaufman, Rockwall, and Hunt Counties, and Judge Smith is committed to bringing his extensive judicial experience
and dedication to fairness to this critical appellate role.
Judge Ben Smith has served as the 380th District Court Judge since his appointment by Governor Rick Perry in 2012. He has been elected by the citizens of Collin County four times. A graduate of Boston University School of Law, Judge Smith brings over 20 years of legal experience, including his tenure as a district judge and prior work as a prosecutor and private attorney. He has presided over complex civil, family, and criminal cases, earning a reputation for impartiality, efficiency, and adherence to the rule of law. His notable achievements include reducing case backlogs and implementing innovative court procedures to enhance judicial transparency in Collin County.
